Mr. James D. Miller, Principal

 

Mr. Miller began his career in 1987 when he joined Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a Social Studies Teacher at Green Run High School.  He held this position for 14 years before moving to Landstown High School in the same capacity.  In 2003, he joined the administrative ranks when he was named an Assistant Principal at Landstown High School.  In conjunction with his other duties, Mr. Miller also served as an evening administrator at Open Campus High School (now part of the Renaissance Academy) from 1993 – 2004.  Mr. Miller was named Principal of Bayside High School & Health Sciences Academy in October of 2009.

 

Mr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education with a minor in History from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the George Washington University.  He was named Teacher of the Year at both Green Run High School (1995) and Landstown High School (2003) as well as Assistant Principal of the Year (2008) and Principal of the Year (2013) by the Virginia Beach Association of Secondary School Principals. Mr. Miller is honored to be in his tenth year as Principal of Bayside High School and Health Sciences Academy.

 


 

Dr. Bermina M. Nickerson, Assistant Principal

 

Dr. Nickerson began her career in 1993 as a Health & Physical Education Teacher, a position she held until her promotion to the administrative ranks in 2000.  Dr. Nickerson has worked with all grade levels as well as in other school divisions.  Dr. Nickerson continued her education career when she joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July of 2007 as an Assistant Principal.

 

Dr. Nickerson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science from Old Dominion University, a Master of Arts degree in Urban Education from Norfolk State University, and a Doctorate in Education from NOVA Southeastern University.

 

 

Dr. Robin L. Reese, Assistant Principal

 

Dr. Reese began her career in 1985 at Bayside Elementary School as a teacher assistant, a position she held until her promotion and transfer to the Bayside Middle School 6th Grade Campus as a Special Education Teacher, where she worked until her transfer to Green Run High School.  In 2002, she joined the administrative ranks as an Assistant Principal at Tallwood High School.  Dr. Reese joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July of 2011 in the same capacity.

 

Dr. Reese holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Norfolk State University, a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Regent University, and a Doctorate in Education from NOVA Southeastern University.

 


 

Dr. William L. Washington, Assistant Principal

 

Dr. William Washington began his career in 1994 as a Music Teacher in Richmond County Public Schools. For over 19 years, his instructional experience includes: General Music, Choral Music, Instrumental Music, English 11 & English 12. Dr. Washington’s administrative experience includes, Assistant Principal, founding director of a transition academy, Director of Early Childhood Education, and District Coordinator of Gifted and Talented for Richmond County Schools. He has also been a high school 504 coordinator.  Dr. Washington began his 25th year as an educator by joining the Bayside High School administrative team in August of 2018 to serve as an Assistant Principal.

 

Dr. Washington holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Longwood University, Master of Arts degree in Education Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Doctorate in Education Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University.

 

 

Mr. Troy A. Walton, Assistant Principal

 

Mr. Walton began his career in 2002 when he joined Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a Mathematics Teacher at Bayside High School & Health Sciences Academy. He held this position for eight years before moving to Salem Middle School to continue teaching math. In 2013, Mr. Walton became a Math Specialist at Bayside Middle School for one year. The following year, he was promoted to the administrative ranks at Bayside Middle School, serving as the Dean of Students from 2014 to 2017. Mr. Walton then transitioned to Plaza Middle School as an Assistant Principal for two years. In July of 2019, Mr. Walton returned to Bayside High School as an Assistant Principal.

 

Mr. Walton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Virginia Wesleyan University and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University.

 

 


 

Mrs. Terry L. Mejia, Health Sciences Academy Coordinator

 

Mrs. Mejia began her career in 1989 when she joined Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a Math Teacher  at Bayside Junior High School (now Bayside Middle School), a position she held for 9 years before moving to the field of School Counseling in 1998.  Mrs. Mejia has served as a School Counselor at both Bayside Middle and Bayside High School.  In 2011, she was appointed Acting Coordinator for the Health Sciences Academy.  After returning to her Counseling position for a year in 2012, Mrs. Mejia officially joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July of 2013 when she was appointed Health Sciences Academy Coordinator.

 

Mrs. Mejia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Virginia Tech University, a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Old Dominion University and a Post Master’s Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the George Washington University.

 

 

Ms. Lisa L. Corprew, Student Activities Coordinator

 

Ms. Corprew began her career in 1995 when she returned to her Alma Mater, Bayside High School as a teacher assistant. Before assuming her current role, Ms. Corprew served in additional positions, such as Adaptive Health/PE Teacher, JV Girls’ Basketball, and Varsity Softball Coach.  Ms. Corprew joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July of 1999 when she was appointed Student Activities Coordinator.

 

Ms. Corprew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from East Carolina University and earned her Certification in Athletic Administration in 2009.  Ms. Corprew was named Athletic Administrator of the Year (2013) and received the State Award of Merit in 2014 from the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (VIAAA).  Ms. Corprew served as the VIAAA President for one complete term in 2014.  Ms. Corprew is currently serving as a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Publications Committee, which is responsible for the production of the IAA magazine, a national publication for athletic directors.

 


 

Ms. Nancy S. Grimstead, School Improvement Specialist

 

Ms. Grimstead began her career in 1985 when she joined Virginia Beach City Public Schools  as a Business Education Teacher at Green Run High School, a position she held before moving to Landstown High School in 2001 in the same capacity.  Ms. Grimstead joined the Bayside High School administrative team in August 2013 as the School Improvement Specialist.

 

Ms. Grimstead holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education from Longwood University, and a Master of Arts degree in Education Administration and Supervision from the George Washington University.

 

 

Ms. Jacqueline M. Mayo, School Counseling Department Chair

 

Ms. Mayo began her career in education in 2009 as a School Counselor in the Newport News School District.  Prior to that, Ms. Mayo served as a Recreational Specialist II for the City of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation.  Ms. Mayo continued her career when she joined the Bayside High School administrative team in September of 2017 as the School Counseling Department Chair.

 

Ms. Mayo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master of Science degree in Education from Old Dominion University.
